- Nominees must be Australian citizens
- Nominees must be a resident of Yass Valley
- Awards may be granted posthumously
- Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years
- Eligibility in individual awards:
- Nominees aged 65 and over will be considered for Yass Valley Senior Citizen of the Year (please note the nominee must be 65 years or older on the 26th of January, 2027)
- Nominees aged 25 years and younger will be considered for Yass Valley Young Citizen of the Year (please note the nominee must be 25 years and younger on the 26th of January, 2027)
- Demonstrated excellence in their field
- Significant contribution to Yass Valley community
- An inspirational role model for Yass Valley community
- Personal, academic and professional achievements – past, current and future
- Contribution in the relevant field (how has nominee ‘given back’ into their field to benefit others)
- Demonstrated leadership, innovation or creativity
- Personal interests and community involvement
- Contribution to Yass Valley and its communities
- Contribution to development of Yass Valley communities and/or economy
- Future goals and likely impact
- Degree of difficulty of the achievement and sacrifices made
- Previous awards and recognition
- Voluntary involvement
- Nature and length of activity or service
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development

Regard will be given to nominees’ achievements in the year immediately prior to receipt of the award, as well as the past achievements, and ongoing contribution to Yass Valley

Who selects the recipients of each award?
Recipients are selected by a judging panel that comprises of community representatives and peers. It is policy of the Australia Day Awards Selection Committee to not discuss deliberations.
